About Alpacas

THE SURI ALPACA
The Suri alpaca has unique fiber characteristics that distinquish the Suri form the rest of the camelid family. Unlike the soft, fuzzy look of the Huacays alpaca, the Suri's long, seperate, distinctive locks are comprised of twisted or flat fibers that drape down the sides of the alpacas's body. The Suri's fiber has a cool, slick hand; is as soft as cashmere; warmer and stronger than wool; and has the luster of silk. Suri fiber is virtually itch-less, easy to dye and comes in more natural colors than any other fiber-producing animal. Suri alpaca fiber consistently brings a premium price in the fiber market and is in high demand. It blends well with wool and other fine fibers such as silk. The yarn can be knitted, crocheted or woven. To witness the grace and impact of a Suri alpaca in full fleece moving across a pasture is truly a breathtaking experience.
